French Colombard, California's second most planted grape (behind Chardonnay) is little known outside France, where its wines were long used for distilling into Cognac. Now planted in Southwest France, South Africa, and California's Central Valley, Colombard is prized for its ability to maintain acidity in hot conditions- enter Texas. We sourced our 2014 Colombard from New Mexico Vineyards in Deming NM. The wine has aromas of peach, orange blossom, and honey and lemon grass and citrus on the palate. Its balanced acidity and refreshing lightness make it a delicious match for mildly spicy Asian dishes and grilled chicken.
